Not the Honeymoon You Would Expect

After several hours of cleaning and unpacking my new apartment, I decided my next logical task was to start a blog.  After all, you can only clean for so long before you get sick of the whole thing.  But let it be said that I now have an organized kitchen, where everything (which is not a lot) is in its rightful place.
Saturday was probably one of the best days of my life.  We woke up to a fresh coat of snow on the ground; perfect for a winter wedding.  We got ready and headed off to the Salt Lake Temple.  Words cannot describe how I felt as I knelt across the alter from the man I love as we were sealed for time and all eternity.  We were surrounded by so many of our family members and friends who love and support us.
After taking a few pictures outside of the temple, Devin and I headed off to check into the hotel.  The girl at the front desk caught on quick that it was our wedding day, what with Devin looking so dapper in his suit and me in my white coat and hair all done up, I’m sure it didn’t take too long.  A few clicks of the mouse later she had upgraded us to the tower suite, just because it was our wedding night.
The reception was great.  Thursday and Friday we had spent considerable time helping Devin’s mom decorate the gym of Aunt Tammy’s church building.  It seemed that everyone pitched in to help and the gym was transformed.  It looked amazing.  We had so many friends and family members come to congratulate us.  I met a lot of new people and family members, but was thrilled every time one of my friends walked through the door.  After so many new faces it was great to see a familiar one.  It was so great, that is until about halfway through the reception, when Devin started getting sick.  He wasn’t doing well at all, but he held in there like a trooper.
Let’s just say that we didn’t have the typical wedding night.  The sick just got worse, and just when he thought he was feeling better his fever would come back.  In the morning, we decided the best plan of action would be to go back to Aunt Tammy’s, where his family was staying, and get some medicine before we headed off to Vegas.  Our flight was supposed to leave around 2, but the closer it got we realized more and more that Vegas wasn’t going to happen.  Devin was so sick that he could hardly move.  We called and canceled our flight and our hotel, and decided that Vegas could wait.
As the day progressed it just kept getting worse so instead of driving back to Boise, like we planned when we decided to cancel Vegas, I took Devin to the minor emergency.  We were convinced that this was no minor cold or flu.  You see I used WebMD and diagnosed him with strep.  The lady at the minor emergency sent us to the regular emergency room because she said in our situation (just married, in between jobs, no insurance, etc.) we could get financial aid and our visit would be free, rather than the $140 that they charged.  So we followed her advice, and wished we wouldn’t have.  We spent 3 horrible hours in the ER.  They did a strep test on Devin and then sent him to lie on a cold hospital bed, in a hospital gown (really, was that necessary?) until an arrogant doctor came in and looked at him for 2.5 seconds and told us he was convinced that he didn’t have strep but we would wait for the test results.  About an hour later we had to call someone to come in because he was in so much pain and all of the Tylenol that we had pumped in him before we left had worn off.  When we finally left we had nothing.  The strep test came back negative, and the only suggestion the doctor had was take ibuprofen every 8 hours and wait it out.
Well, the waiting it out sucked.  We spent yet another sleepless night.  He had the most horrid, awful sick that you can imagine.  And I was pretty much helpless.  We finally decided to attempt the drive back to Boise around 1 o’clock today.  We loaded up Devin’s car; put him in the front, me in the back, and his mom in the driver seat. We must have looked awesome to the people who passed; “Just Hitched” written all of the windows and the groom’s mom in the driver seat.  Just as we were pulling into Boise we got a call from the hospital; the second strep test showed positive.  We’re both on anti-biotics now and I just pray that tomorrow will be a better day.
